The island of Palma is the island located in the northwestern end of the Canary Islands, also in this case the climate is subtropical oceanic (not very influenced by seasonality) on the coasts, so it is very mild and sunny for much of the year, with sporadic rains that manifest themselves more in autumn and winter.
The morphology of this island, few plains and different heights and promontories, make it greener than other Canary Islands.
Among the heights, the Roque de los Muchachos (2,423 meters) in the Caldera de Taburiente (National Park) stands out and at such a height that it is often above the altitude where clouds are formed; for this reason, a world-renowned astronomical observatory was built: the Gran Telescopio Canarias.
In the interior areas, the climate is characterized by cooler and wetter temperatures as altitude increases; in the interior slopes (characterized by dense coniferous forests and other plant species; also native) the rains caused by the condensation of trade winds, which also generate fog and clouds, are more frequent and abundant and this determines its vegetation.
The coastal areas of the island of La Palma are very sunny even during winter, while it is ideal in summer and the skies are generally calm and clear. Rainfall or thunderstorms on the coasts are not very frequent and usually occur in the period from October to March, with a greater incidence in November and December; temperatures are very mild during much of the year (average between 21 and 22 degrees Celsius) with an increase (26-27 degrees average temperature) from July to October.
Autumn days, characterized by an abnormal heat and a weak wind, in which the "calima", the warm air of African origin, predominates, are relatively rare in comparison with the other Canary Islands, due to the greater distance from La Palma to the African continent; this phenomenon is more frequent in spring and summer.
Weather forecasts for the island of La Palma are as follows.
